The more sophisticated a machine becomes, the less machine-like its product. Early synthesisers had a distinct sound, instantly recognisable before the music itself. Today, digital tools can replicate an orchestra with striking realism—yet something remains missing. The craftsmanship of Cremona’s luthiers continues to resonate in the hands of great performers.

This project explores what happens when we replace traditional string vibration with an electronically controlled source, bonded directly to the resonance body of violins, violas, and cellos. The goal was to transmit a remote performance—recorded or live—through these finely crafted instruments. When the violin first played on its own, it was thrilling. It didn’t sound like a speaker—it sounded like a violin. Later, with a full ensemble, we invited an audience to walk among them, experiencing music in an entirely new way—where curiosity meets delight.
