Israel’s first museum exclusively dedicated to the discipline, Design Museum Holon has a playful, visually arresting presence. Formed and bound by six ribbons of COR-TEN steel, the compelling structure encases a series of box-like gallery spaces presented at differing levels. Affording structural support, and offering vital circulatory routes via outdoor public spaces, these dramatic, flowing elements provide an elegant and coherent continuity of form. RAAL was commissioned by the local authority client at concept stage, closely following the development of the project from early programme-writing through to its opening to the public in 2010. An iconic addition to Israel’s ever-expanding architectural and cultural landscape, Design Museum Holon has drawn broad international acclaim, widely recognised as a catalyst for the success of local development.
